DUTIES

  • Responsible for the department’s operations through planning, delegation, execution, and review of work objectives
  • May lead business development pursuits including strategic proposal development, go/no go decision inputs, client outreach and marketing, teaming arrangements, proposal development and review, and interview preparation and delivery
  • May need to serve as Project Manager or Resident Engineer or other key role on projects as needed.
  • Sustain and grow our Illinois Construction Services Practice while working collaboratively with the project team to achieve key operational performance metrics
  • Be responsible for successful contracting and project execution, working closely office leadership, and CEI project staff.
  • Review the work of other professionals including QA/QC, mentoring, training, and growing staff in the performance of job duties
  • Coordinate with other Project Managers to balance workload and staffing needs
  • Assist with the resource management processes including recruitment, career development, succession planning, coaching and mentoring, and leadership development
  • Mentor and develop junior CEI Staff
  • Serve as a seller-doer generating work, creating long-term relationships, and delivering long-term value to clients
  • Develop and drive marketing and business development plans, budgets, and key performance indicators
  • Develop, review, and approve proposals, reports, and contract documents in accordance with TransLand policy
  • Develop and maintain industry relationships and visibility with current and prospective clients, sub-consultants, competitor/teaming partners, and potential recruits
  • Participate in industry associations representing TransLand on committees and boards
  • Provides input to the annual budgetary development process

QUALIFICATIONS PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction, or related field
  • 15+ years of experience, with a minimum of 10 years as a Project Construction Leader on medium to large scale civil and transportation infrastructure projects
  • Illinois PE License
  • Working experience with Tollway, IDOT, CDOT or other Agencies
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in organization and presentation of documentation

Job Responsibilities
The Resident Engineer will perform various engineering tasks by applying standard civil engineering techniques and analyses. Responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to project execution, calculations, and documentation of on-site construction activities; coordination with client, contractors and all subconsultants; managing the project schedule and budget; understanding the contract plans and specifications as required; preparation of pay estimates, problem resolution, and performing or ensuring QA is completed for each project. Other responsibilities may also include construction observation and documentation.  Other key responsibilities will include business development and building client relationships for various public sector clients.

Job Requirements
The ideal candidate must have:

  • BS in Civil Engineering required
  • Current IDOT Documentation Class Certification and IDOT QA/QC Technician training
  • 8 plus years of experience
  • Professional Engineering License (Preferred)
  • IDOT / ISTHA/CDOT project experience is a plus
  • Strong computer skills, especially Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook; and construction management documentation software

Job Description
TransLand has an immediate opening for an entry-level to mid-level transportation design engineer that has a Professional Engineer license or is working toward attaining a Professional Engineer license.  This position will provide an opportunity to work on various projects with IDOT, Tollway, CDOT, and other local municipalities. Typical task may consist of roadway/highway geometric design, storm drainage, erosion control, transportation planning, traffic engineering, corridor studies, and safety studies. Job Responsibilities
Ideally, this candidate can immediately begin to demonstrate proficiency in highway and roadway engineering design.  The successful applicant would immediately begin assisting in the preparation of construction plans, determining plan quantities, engineering estimates and writing specifications. Additionally, this person should be a motivated, self-starting individual that aspires to work in a team environment and to ultimately grow and mature into project leadership roles.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering at an ABET accredited school
  • Minimum of 0 to 5 years engineering experience
  • Any drainage design or course work is a plus
  • PE or EIT (EI) certification (preferred) with the ability to obtain a Professional Engineer’s license in the State of Illinois.
  • Familiarity with CADD (Bentley software a big plus) software.

The Sr. Construction Engineer may function as Resident Engineer or an Assistant Resident on medium to large and more complex roadway/highway and bridge construction projects. This position will provide construction supervision and inspection to ensure the procedures and materials used, as well as the finished product meets the requirements of the plans and specifications.  The responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Preparing regular status reports and maintain current and accurate record drawings.
  • Keeping team and Resident Engineer informed of progress documentation and activities of the Contractor’s QC and Independent QA efforts.
  • Performing daily documentation such Inspector Daily Reports (IDR), Contractor QC and Independent QA documentation.
  • Completing daily reporting including Owner Verification (OV) daily checklists, crew size, equipment on site, activities performed, and taking regular progress photographs.
  • Responsible for field construction efforts, construction sequencing, scheduling, and performance decisions.
  • Assuring quality and uniformity of the Contractor QC and Independent QA records and of various contracts in the overall program

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field is required
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification or PE is a plus
  • IDOT Documentation Control Certification, or willing to obtain certification

The Construction Engineer may function as Resident Engineer or an Assistant Resident on small or larger more complex Transportation roadway/highway and bridge construction projects.   • Manage and assist with field inspection, project documentation, calculations, and project stakeholders
  • Interpret various plans, specifications, contract documents, construction manuals, design manuals, regulations and guidelines for the widely varying field conditions in construction.
  • Ensure compliance with contract plans and specifications
  • Effectively communicates with team members, clients, contractors, and project stakeholders
  • Work to provide protection for owner against defects and deficiencies in the work.
  • Serve as liaison with contractor.
  • Maintain job site records of daily reports, job meeting minutes, approved drawings, and pay requests.
  • Monitor progress schedule and shop drawing log.
  • Create pay estimates and verify completed work.
  • General civil engineering and client service.
  • Assist with design of future projects during off season as needed.
  • Perform work duties safely and always consider the safety of the motoring public. Be courteous and helpful.

Essential Functions:

Intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting. Lifting requirements limited to 20 lbs. in the form of supplies, drawings, etc. Longest distance carried of 50 feet. Hand manipulation is required for simple grasping, pushing and pulling, and fine manipulation. Right and/or left hands utilized. Occasional need to reach and/or work above the shoulder, for supplies, as well as below the shoulder for same. No foot controls necessary. Must be alert to equipment in the field, there will be occasional travel, will work near construction job site equipment when in the field, occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery, occasional need to walk on uneven ground, exposure to dust, gas or fumes, exposure to noise, extremes in temperature or humidity, and potential work at heights.
